Serenity of the seas
A solo design that incorporated branding and creating a new “At Sea” concept. This is a project scope of 992 ft Long, a 160 ft Beam (wide), ceiling height of 58 ft, and finally a passenger capacity of 6,680. The concept is a retro-futuristic cruise experience inspired by eras of 1960s-1970s design due to its angular architectural style, push for social interaction and creating a feeling of liveliness.
Serenity of the Seas creates a relaxed yet lively atmosphere for adults looking to unwind, socialize, and enjoy the feeling of vacation from the moment they step aboard.
With the ceiling height being considered, the way natural light entered the space was a focal point. Then, how important it was to create a relationship between the guests and the built environment through circulation patterns from deck levels and the elevated deck with an extrusion of 8 ft with the idea that people can wonder under, around, and through the platform but also appealing to the large amount of ceiling space. The elevated deck represents a conversation pit used in homes during the time in which this design was inspired by. Although a conversation pit are usually embedded into the ground, my approach was to invert the idea which lead to the design of this interior social spine piece. Fun fact - every angle in this project is a true angle 30 degrees, 45 degrees, 60 degrees, and so forth.
